Purpose of qualification

This qualification is designed to empower individuals with knowledge and skill required by participants in short term insurance; who have had schooling at or below NQF level 4. It is intended to empower learners to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to operate confidently as individuals in the South African community and to respond to the challenges of the economic environment and changing world of work in the financial services industry.

Duration:

Minimum 6 Months to 12 Months

Requirements to register

In order to register for the qualification the learner should be competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.

Targeted learners / Who may register?

Individuals who have attained the national certificate in financial services: Level 3 and wish to continue on a path of life-long learning specializing in Short Term Insurance and Long Term Insurance. Individuals who have worked in the short term or long term insurance sub-sector for many years, but have no formal qualifications in their area of specialization. Learners in a learnership agreement in the short term or long term insurance sub-sector. Individuals who have recently taken up a position in short term or long term insurance. Advisors/representatives that deal with short term and long term insurance.

Study Method

Long-distance learning for individual learners (however module on Mathematical Literacy will be delivered
through contact learning). Direct Facilitation Sessions for Corporate Clients if required Learnerships and Skills programmes for Corporate Clients Targeted learners / Who may register? Individuals who have attained the national certificate in financial services: Level 3 and wish to continue on a path
of life-long learning specializing in Short Term Insurance.

Programme Structure

The Curriculum is aligned to the FETC in Short Term Insurance (Id.49929) with a minimum credits of 150 (i.e.
Fundamentals-68; Core-51; Electives-31 credits which may vary based on the individual or company’s needs)

Learning outcomes

Assessment will be conducted in formative and summative formats and includes:

Workbook and Open Formative Assessment for each Module Closed Book Assessments per each Module Learning outcomes Carrying out basic research tasks and applying literacy and numeracy skills to analyse interpret and evaluate information from a range of sources related to Short Term Insurance or reinsurance. Managing personal finances. Apply knowledge of legislation, ethics, compliance and organisational protocols in the Short Term Insurance environment. Manage own work situation and interpersonal interactions.
